Sh2-106 Hourglass Nebula
Sh2-106 Hourglass Nebula
Sh2-106 Hourglass Nebula is in the constellation Cygnus. It is approximately 2000 light years distant. This is a compact star forming region at only 1.6 light years across and 2 light years long. The newly-formed star called S106 IR at the center of this image is surrounded by dust. The high speed winds of about 200 kms due to the matter ejecting from this star , are responsible for the gas cloud’s hourglass-like shape. This is a rather small object with an apparent size of about 4 arcmin across.
